The #1 Way to Feel More Energized Today

Melissa here to help you figure out the #1 way to start feeling healthier today! It's sleep!
So, why bring up sleep in the first place?
Sleep is one of those things that we hear all the time that we should be doing more. “Get 8 hours of sleep every night!” “Sleep is important!” and we already know all of that right?
But if you’re anything like me, sleep is the first thing that gets pushed to the back burner when we start getting busy. It’s also the first thing that gets pushed to the back burner when we finally get some time to relax right? I caught myself wanting to stay up after the Super Bowl to watch the last episode of This Is Us!
But here’s the thing, not getting enough sleep can lead to decreased productivity, decreased ability to handle stress, increased risk for chronic fatigue and a lowered immune system. Yikes.
Just a couple weeks ago, I myself, realized I wasn’t allowing myself enough time for high quality sleep and guess what? I FELT IT. I was always tired, emotional, feeling overworked, had low energy- and I hit a wall. I knew things had to change immediately.
I started making it a priority to get at least eight hours of sleep and the difference it’s made is incredible. One of my clients just told me “You sound so much more energized today!” I also feel like my ability to handle anything coming my way is so much better, I'm WAY more productive, and I’m just feeling happier overall!
So what is sleep hygiene?
Sleep hygiene is basically the habits that you practice on a daily basis that are conducive to high quality sleep.
If you have good sleep hygiene, you’re consistently putting things into practice that leave you with a good night sleep regularly- which means you’re able to function and stay alert during the day!
You’ll find that every part of your body will work better when you’re well rested.
My clients find that getting enough sleep helps them:
Increase metabolism
Boost energy
Decrease cravings
Think more clearly
Regulate emotions
Boost their immune system
Enjoy their lives to a higher level
So how can you make sure you’re getting quality sleep?
Try any of these things to help with your sleep hygiene:
Create a “Power Down Hour” where you turn of all electronics one hour before bed
Limit caffeine consumption in the late afternoon
Set aside some time to read before you turn the lights out- on print- no electronics, remember?!
Use sleep enhancing essential oils like doTERRA Serenity or doTERRA Lavender
Have dinner at least 3-4 hours before bedtime
Exercise regularly, but not right before bed
Have an herbal tea in the evening
What now?
In my health coaching practice, I lead my clients through a step-by-step system to develop habits that enliven them and help them feel their best. I also love to guide them through how to incorporate essential oils into their everyday lives, and sleep is just one example.
