Why You Don't Already Have What You Want

It's easy to fall into a pattern of pushing things off for when the time is right. As humans we are conditioned to avoid change and “waiting for the right time” becomes the default when we are faced with making a decision.
Go ahead and think for a second about what you’d like to see in your health and life.
Got it?
Maybe you want to have more energy and you can’t remember the last time you felt vibrant and inspired.
Maybe you're uncomfortable in your skin and you want to feel more confident than ever. You know you miss out on events and you’d have SO much more fun if only you felt confident….and yet you don’t feel like you’d be able to take the necessary steps to get there.
You know you want to start eating healthier and have been thinking about this for some time but haven't quite been able to do it. There’s always something that reels you back into ordering takeout or binging on ice cream.
I used to struggle with all of the above, but couldn’t seem to do the things to get me out of the struggle, and I made things way more complicated than they had to be. Anytime I made one step forward, there was always something there to pull me back into my old habits- which only left me feeling bad about myself and completely discouraged.
So why is it that this happens? Perhaps you think having what you want isn’t important, or other people are counting on you for other things. Maybe you think that you don't have the time or money to make such changes. It’s possible that you think going after what you want would be selfish and vain, or that you have other responsibilities. The reality is that this list could go on for days. There’s always something more important. I guarantee you that there are also other things keeping you stuck that you aren't even aware of. If there weren't, you'd already have what you want. We avoid change because the unknown is scary.
There’s a part of your brain that’s responsible for keeping you alive. This is what I call the Critter Brain. If you think of all your habits as a whole, no matter how unhealthy they might be, you actually haven’t died yet. To your brain, those habits are safe and there’s a chance that doing anything different will kill you! So when you’re faced with the option to stop the bingeing, eat healthier, or otherwise change your habits, fear sets in.
This is why it’s so important to have a health coach! How amazing would it be to step into POSSIBILITY of what your life and health could look like? To shine a light on what's keeping you stuck so you know exactly how to get unstuck?
In my health coaching practice, I help people reach their goals while navigating the sneaky Critter Brain. Without this step you WILL fall back into old patterns. Navigating your Critter Brain is essential to creating habits that stick.
